More than 100 Area Business and Community Leaders Turn Out For The Destination Casino Resorts: Business Forum Event in Springfield
What's it like doing business with Mohegan Sun? What kinds of opportunities exist for local businesses with Mohegan Sun Palmer? And how do you start these discussions?
More than 100 business leaders and companies throughout the region discussed those questions and more during the first ever Destination Casino Resort Western Massachusetts Business Forum, hosted by Mohegan Sun. The event featured a panel discussion and networking opportunity.
The panel was headlined by three community leaders who discussed the ins and outs of doing business in the destination casino resort industry - Mohegan Sun Assistant Director of Purchasing Jack Cummings, who works with hundreds of vendors in Connecticut and Pennsylvania; President of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut Tony Sheridan, whose members have had the benefit of working with Mohegan Sun; and Gary Galonek, Sales Manager at All Star Incentive Marketing, whose company provides creative rewards programs and services for Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.
In 2010 Mohegan Sun spent over $500 million on goods and services, with the vast majority going to local vendors near its resort casinos in Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Mohegan Sun is committed to continuing that practice in Western Massachusetts.
"Our chamber is pleased to partner with Mohegan Sun on this destination casino resort business forum," said Jeffrey S. Ciuffreda, President of the Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield." Now that expanded gaming has passed the legislature and been signed by the Governor, it is time to engage in dialogue. The development of a destination casino resort will create a variety of new business and economic growth opportunities for this region, and it's a great advantage for our business community to begin these important conversations now."
The event, which took place at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, was held in partnership with the Economic Development Council of Western Massachusetts, Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield, Massachusetts Latino Chamber of Commerce and the Quaboag Hills Chamber of Commerce.
