Sizzling Summer Showdown

Every Wednesday, starting July 9th through August 27th on the roof of the Riverview Garage, local bands will compete to win the $3,000 grand prize and a booking in the Wolf Den at Mohegan Sun.

If you're an established band in the region with dreams of making it big, drop off your band's demo CD along with a group photo at either Mohegan Sun or Clear Channel Radio in Hartford, located at 10 Columbus Blvd. For more information please cotact Bob Cleaver at BobCleaver@clearchannel.com or 860.723.6143.

• All band members must be 21 years of age or older
• Bands must provide their own equipment including: drum kit & cymbal, all microphones, mic stands, guitar stands and microphone cables. Mohegan Sun will provide the audio, lighting and staging. No additional PA supplementals or lighting effects allowed.
• Band members can not have performed in the Wolf Den previously, have a professional recording contract or have qualified for the finals of any past Mohegan Sun Sizzling Summer Showdown competition.
• Music must be “family friendly”.
• Performers must adhere to all Mohegan Sun rules and sign a guideline contract prior to performance.
• Band must be able to be set up by 4:00 pm on date of performance for sound check.
• Bands will have to be available for the Wednesday they are booked as well as the next night (Thursday) for possible rain date. Bands need to commit to four nights as well as their possible rain dates.
• Bands will perform a 25 minute set, with 50% of the time (first and last song) being covers, the rest must be originals.
• Every time a band performs they will receive a $300 stipend up until the finals. During the finals the Grand Prize Winner will receive $3,000 plus a booking in the Wolf Den, runner-up will get a prize of $1,500.

Signings & Sightings

Presented in partnership with Spin Street, Mohegan Sun's one-of-a-kind "Signings & Sightings" program provides guests the opportunity to meet entertainment superstars and world renowned artists. In addition, the program provides entertainers the opportunity to get up-close-and-personal with their fans in a unique and exciting venue to showcase their latest work. "Signings & Sightings" events are free and open to the public.

Winning Authors

Mohegan Sun unveils an all new “Winning Authors” program presented in collaboration with Spin Street. This updated program still provides guests with the opportunity to get up close and personnel with some of newest and brightest authors in the literary world. Book fans of all types will be delighted with the “Winning Authors” series which showcases authors of various genres. Fans will be able to hear excerpts read by the authors themselves, and hear about the author's creative processes and techniques. A “Winning Authors” event is an experience offering an intimate environment for book lovers. All events are free and open to the public of all ages. Books by featured authors will be available at the Spin Street store in The Shops at Mohegan Sun concourse prior to the event day and Spin Street will also be available on location on the day of the event.

In collaboration with Spin Street, Mohegan Sun is pleased to welcome Katie Lee Joel to the “Winning Authors” program Sunday, May 25th at 3:00pm. Fans of the “Winning Authors” program will be delighted with this latest offering as the author, brilliant cook and wife of the “Piano Man”, Katie Lee Joel, comes to Mohegan Sun for a cooking demonstration in addition to her book signing.

Don't miss this rare opportunity to meet Katie as she dishes on her secrets to preparing healthy comfort food with recipes from her new cookbook The Comfort Table during a demonstration in Mohegan Sun's Cabaret Theatre at 3:00pm. Immediately following, Katie will conduct a signing of The Comfort Table in the Spring Gateway located in The Shops at Mohegan Sun at 4:00pm. Copies of the cookbook will be available for sale beginning April 28th at Spin Street for $25.00 and for a special day-of-event price of $19.99.

Katie Lee Joel grew up spending a great deal of time on her grandparents' farm in West Virginia. It was there, under the guidance of her grandmother, and being surrounded by fresh produce and cattle, that Katie caught the cooking bug. These experiences as a young girl instilled within her the passion she has today for creating healthy comfort food.

Join us during Katie's "Winning Authors" appearance for a glimpse into Katie's journey to becoming one of the most respected cooks in the country. Some of her most recent notable accomplishments include hosting Bravo's hit reality series, Top Chef, her weekly culinary and lifestyle column, Katie's Kitchen, in Hamptons Magazine. In addition, Katie can be seen as one of the judges on the popular Food Network program Iron Chef America and also lends her food and fashion expertise as a regular Style Correspondent for NBC's Extra.
